Feldenkrais in Seattle FAQs
Discover Feldenkrais® in Seattle: Frequently Asked Questions
The Feldenkrais Method® is a somatic educational approach that will help you reduce your pain, reconnect with your body, and move with more grace, efficiency, and comfort.
Put simply, Feldenkrais will teach you to move better and when you move better, you live better—with more comfort and less pain.
Discovering the Feldenkrais Method changed my life, so I’m excited to share its benefits with others in the Seattle community. What follows are the most frequently asked questions about Feldenkrais and my Feldenkrais practice.
What services do you offer for Feldenkrais in Seattle?
I offer one-on-one, in-person Feldenkrais sessions called Functional Integration Lessons. Each session lasts 55 minutes and is tailored to meet your specific needs and challenges.
What happens during a Feldenkrais session?
“Laura has a knack for asking questions of her clients (verbally and with touch) that lead them to discover abilities they do not know they have.”—Jeff Haller, Feldenkrais Trainer
During a session, we will work together to help you become more aware of your habitual neuromuscular patterns and learn new ways of moving and acting.
We may work in various positions, such as standing, sitting, or lying on a table, all while remaining fully clothed. Through touch, I can help you become more aware of your existing movement patterns and introduce you to new possibilities. It’s important to note that the touch used in Feldenkrais is informative, interactive, non-invasive, and never causes discomfort or pain.
Who can benefit from a Feldenkrais session?
A Feldenkrais session is beneficial for anyone seeking to improve their comfort, enhance their movements, and/or reduce their pain. Its gentle nature makes it suitable for individuals of all fitness levels and physical abilities, regardless of age or experience. I have experience helping:
- People in pain: Many individuals come to me seeking relief from pain. I have helped people with a large variety of issues including neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, hip pain, knee pain, bunions, and fibromyalgia.
- Performers: Musicians, dancers, actors, and other performers who are interested in improving the precision, grace, and ease of their movements.
- Athletes and weekend warriors: I have worked with many runners, weightlifters, swimmers, and people with active lifestyles. I’ve helped them improve their performance, prevent injuries, recover from injuries, and find more pleasure in playing their sport. My own introduction to the Feldenkrais Method was due to injuries I sustained while playing racquetball.
- People on a journey of self-discovery: Feldenkrais is ideal for those exploring their inner selves, seeking personal growth, and wanting to feel more embodied and present.
How long does it take to see results from Feldenkrais?
In each session, my commitment is to improve your movement in some way. Often, pain relief occurs quickly. For example:
- “What I found most memorable about our first few sessions was how quickly focusing on my skeleton brought relief.”—See Kate’s Success Story
- “I had hoped to feel a little better, but, remarkably, after just a few sessions my neck pain went away”.—See Kathy’s Success Story
- “Within eight weeks, I no longer had pain when I walked. I went on a hike, and it was longer than I wanted (like seven hours). My legs were a bit sore, but it was only when I got back to the car, did I think, ‘Holy Cow, I just walked for seven hours. I love Laura!”—See V’s Success Story
With that said, each case is different. So, it would be difficult for me to predict how long it will take for you to achieve your goals. The timeline depends on your starting point, the nature of your goal, and how quickly you learn.
If you’re seeking Feldenkrais in Seattle, you can be confident that I will work diligently with you to ensure your progress.
How were you trained?
Becoming a Feldenkrais practitioner is a rigorous, four-year process that includes over 800 hours of training. I began an extensive training program for Feldenkrais in Seattle, then switched over to another program in Victoria. I graduated in 2012 and have been working with clients ever since.
I am committed to continually refining my skills. Since graduating, I have participated in over 1300 hours of advanced Feldenkrais trainings. Staffing Feldenkrais training programs has also greatly enhanced my understanding and skill. I have helped design and run the following multi-year Feldenkrais training programs:
- Feldenkrais Training Academy (2018-2022) in Seattle, WA was a four-year program that trained people to become certified Feldenkrais practitioners.
- IOPS Academy in Basil (2019-2021), Buenos Aires (2017-2019), Seattle (2016-2018), and New York (2015-2017) were 18-month advanced Feldenkrais trainings designed to help existing practitioners improve their skills.
How do you pronounce Feldenkrais?

- fel·duhn·krayz or fel·den·krice
In Seattle, “Feldenkrais” is commonly pronounced fel·den·krice.
